biography 

Carla Sutera Sardo is an Italian photographer based in Sicily. She initially studied law at the University of Palermo, graduating in 2011, and briefly qualified to practice as a lawyer before fully dedicating herself to photography.

Her interest in photography began during her university years between Palermo and Rome, where she developed a self-taught approach rooted in experimentation and self-portraiture. She later expanded her practice through formal training in photographic technique in Palermo.

Sutera Sardo’s work explores the relationship between the female body and natural landscapes, often drawing on the raw and untouched environments of Sicily. Her imagery is characterized by a dreamlike, timeless aesthetic in which body and landscape merge into symbolic and emotional compositions.

Over time, she has developed a distinctive visual language that transforms photography into a poetic exploration of identity, nature, and presence.

Her work has been exhibited internationally in cities including London, Paris, Turin, Florence, Palermo, Zhengzhou, Gibellina, and Slovenia, and has been featured in publications such as Vogue Italia and L’Œil de la Photographie. She has received multiple awards, including recognition from the Sony World Photography Awards, Siena International Photography Awards, and the Prix de la Photographie.
