Contemporary Metal Sculptor
Biography
Vincent Barrau is a French sculptor currently based in Thailand. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in architecture, as well as a degree in design and 3D animation.
Before dedicating himself fully to art, Barrau led successful businesses in communication and international stone trading. His work involved natural materials such as marble, granite, and quartz, giving him a deep understanding of material structure and craftsmanship.
After relocating to Thailand, Barrau underwent a decisive artistic shift. Three years ago he turned his full attention to sculpture, choosing stainless steel as his primary medium of expression.
His artistic process begins with detailed digital 3D modeling. Each sculpture is carefully designed before being translated into a handcrafted physical form.
Barrau’s work explores the human figure, both male and female, capturing emotion, vulnerability, and inner narratives through industrial materials. Polished steel surfaces interact with light, softening the rigidity of metal and revealing unexpected warmth and sensitivity.
The sculptures balance strength and delicacy, combining architectural precision with expressive gestures. Through these works, Barrau reflects on the complexity of the human condition, where tension, harmony, fragility, and resilience coexist.
Every sculpture is entirely handcrafted. Stainless steel plates, bolts, washers, and custom-cut components are assembled and welded with meticulous attention to detail. The process demands technical mastery and patience, resulting in works that embody both structural rigor and artistic sensitivity.
Barrau’s sculptures integrate seamlessly into contemporary interior spaces and architectural environments, bringing emotional presence and refined elegance.

Collections
Natural Aging Collection
This series of steel sculptures is conceived to evolve over time, preserving the material’s natural surface and allowing oxidation to gradually shape its appearance. The resulting transformation becomes an integral part of the work, echoing the passage of time and the marks of lived experience.
Much like the aging of human skin, each piece reveals subtle changes that speak of life’s cycles. The sculptures embrace imperfection and transformation, unfolding organically and embodying the quiet beauty of time itself.

Silk Collection
This series of stainless steel sculptures explores lightness, movement, and fluidity. Despite the rigidity of the material, the forms appear almost immaterial, as if suspended in space.
Inspired by the curves of the human body and the play of light on metal surfaces, the works evoke the sensation of fabric animated by air. Soft, undulating lines create a poetic illusion where matter seems to detach from its own weight, resulting in compositions defined by elegance, balance, and visual harmony.

Thai Language Collection
Inspired by the beauty and symbolism of the Thai language, this series transforms written characters into sculptural forms. Each work embodies words associated with the Thai spirit, such as love, beauty, vitality, peace, happiness, kindness, and hope.
Carefully hand-cut and shaped, the reflective surfaces interact with light and form to create a dynamic visual experience. These sculptures invite contemplation on the relationship between language, identity, and expression, translating meaning into a refined artistic language.

Woman Faces Collection
This collection explores the female face as a timeless and universal subject. Crafted in stainless steel, the works present a spectrum of interpretations, ranging from ethereal and minimal to dense and highly realistic.
Through these variations, the artist reflects on the complexity of femininity, where fragility and strength coexist in subtle balance. The series also allows for commissioned works, offering the possibility of transforming individual identities into unique sculptural expressions.

Prayer Collection
This series is centered around the serene figure of a woman in a contemplative, prayerful posture. The sculptures embody a gesture of introspection, spirituality, and inner search.
By balancing transparency and solidity, lightness and structure, the works play with reflection and negative space. As the viewer moves around the piece, its perception shifts, revealing alternating impressions of weightlessness and grounded presence. The result is a powerful yet meditative experience, inviting stillness, reflection, and inner calm.

Meditation Collection
These works are created using an intricate process involving hundreds of meters of metal chain. Each link is individually welded by hand, forming sculptural faces that require thousands of hours of meticulous craftsmanship.
The resulting forms depict feminine figures immersed in deep meditation. They evoke a sense of calm, silence, and emotional depth. Up close, the sculptures feel almost alive, as if suspended between presence and absence, inviting the viewer into a moment of quiet introspection.

Artisanal Process
Vincent Barrau’s practice is deeply rooted in craftsmanship. Each sculpture is created through a meticulous, hands-on process, where stainless steel elements are welded individually with precision and care.
This demanding approach requires extensive time and dedication, often involving hundreds or thousands of hours. The result is a body of work defined by refinement, clarity, and elegance, where technical mastery enhances the emotional and conceptual depth of each piece.
