ARTIST STATEMENT

Tatiana Cardellicchio explores the construction of identity through the body, using photography as a space where presence and fiction, vulnerability and control coexist. Her practice is rooted in self-portraiture, transforming her own body into a visual field where cultural expectations, aesthetic codes, and personal mythology intersect.

In The Dictatorship of Petals, floral elements act as devices of seduction and domination. Petals conceal, frame, or replace the face, suggesting beauty as an imposed system. An attraction that simultaneously hides and controls. The series reflects on femininity as a visual construction, where the body becomes surface, ornament, and resistance.

In Impact, her research shifts toward the relationship between body and landscape. Created within natural reserves in Southern Italy, the works merge human presence with environment, dissolving the boundary between skin and territory. The body becomes embedded in landscape, absorbing its memory, fragility, and transformation.

For Cardellicchio, self-portrait is not autobiography but method. A way to inhabit multiple identities and stage the self as both subject and object. Her current research expands into still-life compositions and fragmented body imagery, developing a broader visual language of constructed perception.

Through carefully staged imagery, she creates suspended moments where the body becomes sculpture, landscape becomes theater, and photography becomes a ritual of unveiling.
