Born in Tehran in 1967, Shirin Jabalameli is a multidisciplinary artist with a background in political science and translation. Her academic background enriches her practice, merging intellectual depth with emotional and tactile artistic expression.
Shirin is more than a painter; she is the creator and master of the Apranik painting style. She refuses to use traditional brushes or tools, choosing instead to paint only with her fingertips. This hands-on method gives her work a distinct texture, intimacy, and originality.
Her career spans over 27 years, but she began developing the Apranik technique in 2019. Since then, she has created more than 1,200 artworks using this signature method. She is also an author and photographer, revealing her literary side in the 2019 book Crows Rarely Laugh.
The same year, her photography collection One Hundred Moments was published by Mah Mad Publications. These works show her ability to observe and record fleeting moments with precision and feeling.
Shirin's art has been featured in solo and group exhibitions in Iran, Spain, the USA, Italy, and Malaysia. Her work has also appeared in shows across Turkey, Switzerland, France, Dubai, and Luxembourg. She received a certificate of artistic accomplishment from the Luxembourg Museum for her unique contributions. In 2022, her Apranik technique was internationally recognized for its originality and influence on contemporary art.
Shirin Jabalameli continues to push artistic boundaries, fusing intuition with innovation across mediums and disciplines. She is the sole pioneer of Apranik painting, making her a significant figure in today’s global art landscape.
