about this Mixed Media sculpture
The Sixteenth Perspective presents 16 sculptural heads arranged in a regimented grid, each wearing a stylized conical cap. While the forms are repeated, subtle variations in color and surface tonality transform individuality into pattern, exploring the tension between identity and conformity.
Cast from sculpted molds in resin, the heads are coated with pigmented layers and matte sealant. Hand sanding introduces slight imperfections, preserving the fragile humanity within the uniform repetition.
Kahfi reflects on cultural conformity and categorized existence, showing how visual systems reduce personality to color and surface, turning the human figure into a structured code. The installation critiques societal frameworks that organize and regulate identity, inviting viewers to consider the boundaries between self and collective.
Installation: Designed for wall display as a unified set, creating a striking interplay of repetition, color, and form. The dimensions listed refer to a single piece.
about the artist
Hossein Kahfi is a contemporary Iranian sculptor exploring both conceptual and material dimensions of sculpture. He works with mixed media, metal, wood, and found objects, blending traditional techniques with experimental methods. His practice includes small-scale sculptures, intricate installations, and large-scale works that engage space and environment.
Kahfi’s sculptures explore human experience, memory, imagination, and the complex interaction between individuals and their surroundings. He often uses symbolic forms and textures to reflect cultural narratives and contemporary societal concerns. His work challenges viewers to question perception, environment, and the meaning embedded in everyday objects. Materiality is central to his practice, where contrasts between hard and soft, fragile and durable, create tension and harmony.
Kahfi’s process is meticulous, often involving layering, carving, and assembling multiple elements into cohesive sculptural forms. He emphasizes dialogue between space, object, and observer, allowing his works to transform with perspective and context.
His pieces have been shown in leading Iranian galleries, reflecting both aesthetic and conceptual innovation in sculpture. Exhibitions include Without Quiescence (2024) and Invisible Palace of Imagination (2022) at Shirin Gallery, Tehran. He also participated in the 11th Annual Exhibition of Small Sculptures, highlighting his continuing contemporary presence.
