about this Digital Photography
Splash and Stripes blurs fashion editorial with visual satire. A figure floats in a striped swimsuit amid bright yellow bananas. These props double as protagonists, creating a playful, colorful scene. Distorted reflections, bold colors, and unexpected fruit challenge beauty norms and consumer imagery. The work winks at pop art while questioning conventional visual language.
AQVA series by Carla Sutera Sardo explores underwater form, color, and movement. Inspired by Sicily’s natural elements, floral and abstract shapes are immersed in water. The pieces capture suspended worlds of vivid hues, surreal textures, and shifting reflections. The series evokes both serenity and motion, blending stillness with dynamic fluidity in a liquid realm.
about the artist
Carla Sutera Sardo (b. 1983, Agrigento) is an Italian photographer exploring the relationship between women and natural landscapes. She began her practice during university studies in Palermo and Rome, teaching herself through self-portraiture.
Her staged compositions balance intimacy and strength, inviting viewers into quiet, surreal moments that evoke transformation and emotional depth.
Early works focused on Sicily’s unspoiled terrain, revealing her poetic, dreamlike visual language. Her imagery suspends time, blending intimacy, femininity, and place with quiet strength.
Sutera Sardo’s photographs have appeared in L’Œil de la Photographie, Vogue Italia, and won recognition from the Sony World Photography Awards and Siena Photography Awards. She has also received the Prix de la Photographie.
Her work has been exhibited internationally in London, Paris, Florence, Turin, Palermo, Zhengzhou, Gibellina, and Slovenia. Notably, she contributed to Nomad Art Collective’s inaugural exhibitions Il Bivio: Fragmented Feminine and Il Bivio II: Sicily in Confluence.
