about this mixed media sculpture
Drunk is an evocative mixed media sculpture by Sara Rahanjam, blending fiberglass and bronze to explore themes of identity, power, and cultural heritage.
The piece features a half-body form of a woman made from fiberglass, topped with a bronze crown that is adorned with intricate birds and Persian motifs.
This symbolic crown contrasts with the simple, sleek body, creating a dynamic interplay between the lightness of the body and the weight of the crown, signifying a deeper cultural and emotional narrative.
Artistic Concept
Rahanjam’s Drunk sculpture delves into the tensions between earthly desires and spiritual aspirations. The woman’s half-body form represents a sense of incompleteness, while the crown symbolizes power, identity, and inner conflict.
The birds and motifs on the crown reflect traditional Persian artistry, grounding the piece in cultural history while addressing modern themes of identity and self-perception. The title, Drunk, suggests a state of emotional intoxication, symbolizing how one’s desires and social pressures can overwhelm personal identity.
