about this miniature painting
This Persian miniature painting presents a symmetrical composition rooted in symbolism and cultural richness. Two stylised human figures, one male and one female, sit on vibrant, ribbon-adorned boxes. Both hold a flower and a pomegranate seed, creating a mirrored visual language that reflects harmony and duality. The female figure, dressed in vivid green, embodies fertility and grace. The male figure, in bright orange, echoes her gestures, balancing the scene with warmth and vitality.
A large halved pomegranate at the center acts as the composition’s symbolic heart. Scattered seeds evoke themes of abundance, life, and rebirth. The fruit’s central position, combined with its mythological and cultural relevance, reinforces its status as a powerful emblem in Persian art. The golden background and alternating turquoise and black borders frame the scene with elegance, while the polygonal outer frame breaks convention, adding contemporary energy to a traditional format.
To the left, a poetic inscription in flowing sūlth script adds a literary dimension. The verse by Omar Khayyam reads: "Reduce your greed for the world so you can live happily."
This philosophical reflection complements the visual narrative, connecting material restraint with emotional balance. Together, imagery and poetry create a contemplative piece that blends beauty with wisdom, hallmarks of Persian miniature art.
