about this ceramic sculpture
Ariane Crovisier’s Nénupharaon ceramic sculpture embodies fluid transformation through form, texture, and emotional depth. Handmade in clay, the work reflects her intuitive approach to sculpture, where material becomes a vessel for movement and feeling. The surface is shaped through layered hand-building techniques, allowing the form to evolve organically rather than mechanically.
The sculpture presents a layered abstract clay form elevated on a slender black stem, anchored by a black metal base, creating a strong sense of vertical tension and balance. Its silver-grey glaze adds a subtle metallic sheen, evoking a quiet interplay between organic matter and industrial precision.
The composition feels like a floating structure, suspended between grounding and elevation. Its layered surfaces suggest accumulation, erosion, and transformation, while the vertical support introduces a sense of ritualistic presence, almost totemic in nature.
Fired and finished through Crovisier’s sensitive material approach, the piece embodies a refined dialogue between fragility and strength. It stands as a sculptural exploration of elevation, memory, and material transformation, where form is both grounded and in a constant state of ascent.
about the artist
Ariane Crovisier is a contemporary French sculptor (b. 1983), known for expressive, emotionally charged works that explore form, void, and human presence. With a foundation in sculpture, modeling, and stone carving, she developed a deeply intuitive practice centered on hand-built ceramic and sculptural processes.
Her work draws inspiration from natural rhythms, philosophical inquiry, and psychological depth. Influenced in part by her background in psychology, Crovisier explores emotional states through abstracted and anthropomorphic forms. She works across ceramic, stone, and bronze, often combining matte and glazed surfaces to create dynamic interactions with light.
Crovisier’s sculptures are designed to be experienced from multiple viewpoints, encouraging spatial awareness and contemplation. Her practice bridges tactile materiality with conceptual reflection, positioning her work between body, emotion, and landscape.
Her works have been exhibited internationally, including at the Affordable Art Fair in Stockholm and Exogallery in Germany, alongside various contemporary art fairs and gallery presentations. Her sculptures are held in private collections across Europe and internationally, reflecting her growing recognition within contemporary sculpture.
