The Suspended Squares series investigates fragmentation as a tool for visual reconstruction and imaginative reordering of form and meaning. Unlike previous works, where lines or circles organize space, this series centers on the square's clarity and structured presence.

The square’s defined geometry allows playful shifts in direction, opening new ways to challenge how we perceive the image. Each square stands alone as a fragment, a self-contained story contributing to a broader, layered visual composition.

When assembled, these fragments generate a complex whole, offering new readings through their combined tensions and rhythms. This process highlights multiplicity within the image, inviting reflection on the dynamics between unity and individuality. The contrast between autonomy and cohesion reflects deeper themes of identity, structure, and the disorder of modern life.

In Suspended Squares, fragmentation signals possibility rather than absence, a strategy for reshaping visual and conceptual experience. This photography artwork encourages viewers to identify new patterns, trace unseen connections, and generate meaning through visual participation. It becomes a spatial dialogue, a rhythm of control and spontaneity unfolding through direction, repetition, and layered variation.

Movement plays a central role, offering viewers entry points into reimagined scenes drawn from daily visual language. This series balances visual logic and abstract freedom, presenting a dynamic space for reflection and aesthetic discovery.

artist statement

I see myself as a full-time visual consumer, constantly absorbing and responding to my surroundings. My artistic journey spans sculpture, engraving, and photography artwork, each helping shape my visual language. Sculptural practice became my core medium, where I reconstruct emotions and build alternative narratives.

Through materials and photographs, I assemble illusions that question reality and perceived truth. My work explores the creation of identity and sensation through the reconfiguration of visual and emotional fragments. Each piece invites reflection on the human psyche, its fragility, adaptability, and layered meaning.

I examine the mind as a transformable and ever-shifting entity. We are shaped by our environments, political realities, and existential tensions. I do not depict a specific individual, but rather the universal state of becoming. Every human presence encountered influences my process, feeding a deeper reflection on shared psychological landscapes.

Artist Bio

Diana Beltran was born in Bogotá in 1978. She earned her Master of Fine Arts at the National University of Colombia. Her artistic focus centers primarily on photography, with consistent and wide-ranging output.

Beltran has exhibited solo and collectively in Colombia, Spain, USA, Germany, Peru, Venezuela, Singapore, and Dubai. Her work is included in collections in Chile, Colombia, USA, Panama, Spain, Mexico, Peru, London, and Dubai. She debuted at the National University’s Art Museum in a group show curated by Gustavo Zalamea.

Her work was shown alongside major Colombian artists like Beatriz González and Bernardo Salcedo. Graduating with honors, she moved to Spain for a master’s in photography at EFTI School in Madrid. Her thesis work was featured in PhotoEspaña 2008. That same year, she won the Novel Dove First Photography Prize.

In 2010, she returned to Colombia with her exhibition Photo Dimensions at the Chamber of Commerce. In 2013, she took part in Emerging Generation, curated by Eduardo Serrano. Since then, she exhibits regularly, exploring photography’s expansive forms and existential themes. Beltran currently lives and works in Bogotá.
