about this calligraphy painting
Reflection from the 47 series, is an abstract calligraphy painting set against a muted grey background, layered with earthy browns and warm orange hues. The composition transforms Persian script into dynamic, flowing abstraction, where gesture and texture take precedence over literal language.
Layered strokes, tonal contrasts, and subtle textures create visual rhythm and depth, evoking contemplation and introspection. This work exemplifies Rashvand’s ability to balance cultural heritage with contemporary artistic expression, inviting viewers to experience calligraphy as pure visual poetry.
about the artist
Babak Rashvand is an Iranian contemporary artist known for his abstract calligraphic practice. Born in Tehran in 1980, he trained in Visual Communication at Tehran University. He holds a Master’s degree from the Faculty of Fine Arts.
Rashvand reimagines Persian calligraphy through expressive abstraction and layered gesture. Script dissolves into rhythm, texture, and movement. Words become visual energy rather than literal language. His compositions balance restraint with emotional intensity.
Working primarily in acrylic on canvas, he builds surfaces through careful layering. Earthy pigments, tonal contrasts, and controlled textures define his aesthetic. Tradition remains present, yet never confined to classical form. He bridges heritage with a distinctly contemporary visual language.
Rashvand has presented solo exhibitions in Tehran, London, Amman and Dubai. His work has also been featured in international group exhibitions and prominent art fairs. Collectors across the Middle East and Europe hold his paintings, including private residences of royal families of Qatar, Abu Dhabi, Jordan, and Kuwait.
Through abstraction, Rashvand preserves the روح of calligraphy while freeing it from structure. His works invite contemplation, reflection, and personal interpretation. Each painting becomes a quiet dialogue between memory, culture, and modern expression.
