Sphere represents a symbolic and spiritual journey through the materials that compose it: gold, copper, and nickel-plated pins. Each element embodies a state of transition. Together, they form an ascending movement from the earthly to the divine.

Nickel, cold and metallic, refers to the beginning. It symbolizes the most material and mundane state, grounded in earthly presence. It is the starting point. A dense, silent base that anchors the piece in the world of form and matter. 

Copper, with its warmth and transformative history, plays the role of a bridge between states of being. It reflects the passage. It evokes the process of rising, of moving from the tangible toward the unseen and spiritual.

Gold crowns the composition. It symbolizes purity, the eternal, and the sacred, reaching toward something beyond human comprehension. Gold is light and breath. It suggests transcendence, stillness, and the quiet presence of something unchangeable and infinite.

The pins are not simply arranged. They engage in a visual and symbolic dialogue across surface and space. They create rhythm and progression. The form unfolds like a silent prayer rising through material thresholds.

Sphere becomes a mirror of inner movement. It invites viewers to reflect on their own journey toward the sacred. It speaks of the human experience. Of the longing to evolve, connect, and reach beyond what the eye can hold. 

This mixed media sculpture is not static. It vibrates with the tension between heaviness and light, matter and spirit. In its stillness, it tells a story. A journey from the mundane to the eternal, through beauty and elemental truth.

artist statement

I see myself as a full-time visual consumer, constantly absorbing and responding to my surroundings. My artistic journey spans sculpture, engraving, and photography, each helping shape my visual language. Sculptural practice became my core medium, where I reconstruct emotions and build alternative narratives.

Through materials and photographs, I assemble illusions that question reality and perceived truth. My work explores the creation of identity and sensation through the reconfiguration of visual and emotional fragments. Each piece invites reflection on the human psyche, its fragility, adaptability, and layered meaning.

I examine the mind as a transformable and ever-shifting entity. We are shaped by our environments, political realities, and existential tensions. I do not depict a specific individual, but rather the universal state of becoming. Every human presence encountered influences my process, feeding a deeper reflection on shared psychological landscapes.

Artist Bio

Diana Beltran was born in Bogotá in 1978. She earned her Master of Fine Arts at the National University of Colombia. Her artistic focus centers primarily on photography, with consistent and wide-ranging output.

Beltran has exhibited solo and collectively in Colombia, Spain, USA, Germany, Peru, Venezuela, Singapore, and Dubai. Her work is included in collections in Chile, Colombia, USA, Panama, Spain, Mexico, Peru, London, and Dubai. She debuted at the National University’s Art Museum in a group show curated by Gustavo Zalamea.

Her work was shown alongside major Colombian artists like Beatriz González and Bernardo Salcedo. Graduating with honors, she moved to Spain for a master’s in photography at EFTI School in Madrid. Her thesis work was featured in PhotoEspaña 2008. That same year, she won the Novel Dove First Photography Prize.

In 2010, she returned to Colombia with her exhibition Photo Dimensions at the Chamber of Commerce. In 2013, she took part in Emerging Generation, curated by Eduardo Serrano. Since then, she exhibits regularly, exploring photography’s expansive forms and existential themes. Beltran currently lives and works in Bogotá.
