about this Mixed Media sculpture
Status No. 25 features twenty five colorful human-like figures displayed on uniform dark grey square bases. Each form is identical, yet vividly differentiated by color, creating a striking visual pattern that examines individuality within repetition.
Cast from a single mold and coated with pigmented layers, the figures appear to hold or carry objects, suggesting work, duty, or social roles. The grid like arrangement evokes museum classification, emphasizing structure, order, and the subtle hierarchy of collective identity.
Through this series, Kahfi explores conformity, passive presence, and the ways color becomes the only expression of uniqueness.
Dimensions
Total width and length refer to the cumulative placement of all nine heads on the wall, allowing flexible installation.
about the artist
Hossein Kahfi is a contemporary Iranian sculptor exploring both conceptual and material dimensions of sculpture. He works with mixed media, metal, wood, and found objects, blending traditional techniques with experimental methods. His practice includes small-scale sculptures, intricate installations, and large-scale works that engage space and environment.
Kahfi’s sculptures explore human experience, memory, imagination, and the complex interaction between individuals and their surroundings. He often uses symbolic forms and textures to reflect cultural narratives and contemporary societal concerns. His work challenges viewers to question perception, environment, and the meaning embedded in everyday objects. Materiality is central to his practice, where contrasts between hard and soft, fragile and durable, create tension and harmony.
Kahfi’s process is meticulous, often involving layering, carving, and assembling multiple elements into cohesive sculptural forms. He emphasizes dialogue between space, object, and observer, allowing his works to transform with perspective and context.
His pieces have been shown in leading Iranian galleries, reflecting both aesthetic and conceptual innovation in sculpture. Exhibitions include Without Quiescence (2024) and Invisible Palace of Imagination (2022) at Shirin Gallery, Tehran. He also participated in the 11th Annual Exhibition of Small Sculptures, highlighting his continuing contemporary presence.
