about this wood sculpture
This wood sculpture is crafted from wild pear burl and walnut wood, blending natural texture with bold visual contrast. The vessel, turned from wild pear burl, was the starting point for a larger artistic vision.
Once completed, the artist sensed the form needed a distinctive presence, something more than just a bowl. He envisioned a unique pedestal and sculptural neck to elevate the vessel’s importance and visual impact.
Many trials followed, as he refined the shape and structure through patient experimentation and detail work. The final base features an asymmetrical form and a striking turned stem, full of movement and personality.
Its sculptural lines and playful balance give the piece a lively, almost animated character. The contrast between the pale vessel and the deep walnut base adds vibrancy and depth to the sculpture.
Together, the elements create a harmonious dialogue between texture, color, and intentional imperfection. This work embodies the artist’s emotional connection to material, process, and creative instinct.
