about the artist
Najva Erfani creates paintings and sculptures that explore social and mythic spaces centered on women. Her work reflects feminine emotions, embodied experiences, and the inner landscapes of women’s lives. Through form and color, she moves between humor, grotesque imagery, and serious storytelling.
Influenced by the visual language of Persian folk art, particularly ghahveh-khaneh (coffeehouse) painting, she builds atmospheres filled with myth and symbolism. Over time, her imagery has shifted from mythical to contemporary, where rituals meet daily life and transformation unfolds.
Erfani has exhibited widely, including Woman & Pink Boat (Homa Art Gallery, Tehran, 2023), Anabasis (Homa Art Gallery, Tehran, 2020), Iran Avantgarde (D-Mitte Gallery, Düsseldorf, 2018), and Sensation (Cama Gallery, London, 2018).
In her sculptures, color and form remain the primary forces, yet even within their fluid, stylized shapes, echoes of narrative continue to resonate. Her art invites viewers to reflect on identity, resilience, and the evolving role of women. It calls art lovers to engage with her world of emotion, transformation, and poetic strength.
