about the artist

Elham Ghorbanishad is an Iranian visual artist with a background in graphic design from Azad University Tehran, graduating in 1974. She began developing her painting practice in 1984 under the guidance of Ahmed Vakili. Later, she expanded her approach through abstract painting studies with Babak Etminani.

Her professional artistic journey formally began in 2014 with her solo exhibition Countless Women at Gallery 26 in Tehran. Since then, she has exhibited internationally across Europe and the Middle East, including participation in the Florence Biennale, Parma Art Fair, Dubai World Art Exhibition, and Armenia Art Fair. She also took part in notable group exhibitions such as The Other Me at Sayeh Gallery and 100 Artists with 100 Artworks.

Ghorbanishad works primarily within contemporary figurative abstraction, blending psychological observation with expressive composition. The human figure becomes a central motif, reinterpreted as a vessel for inner states rather than literal representation. Her practice translates memory, perception, and emotional experience into visual form.

She deliberately simplifies colour palettes to emphasize structure, materiality, and gesture. Forms are often fragmented and emotionally driven, where texture and composition carry more weight than narrative detail. This reduction enhances conceptual clarity and strengthens the physical presence of each work.

Her visual language balances introspection with expressive physicality, channeling internal energy through restrained yet powerful abstraction. The result is a practice that transforms emotional movement into layered, contemporary figurative painting.
