about this mixed media sculpture
Behnaz Mohammadhadi’s Ragnarok sculpture takes the form of a cylindrical vessel composed of intricately shaped heart-like forms, layered closely to create a dense and tactile surface.
Made from fiberglass and finished in a vivid green, the piece brings together emotional intensity and material stillness. Each heart is modeled with subtle variation, giving every edition a distinct presence while symbolizing the diversity of human feeling, memory, and connection.
The title Ragnarok draws from ancient mythology, where it marks the end of the world followed by the possibility of rebirth. In this work, however, the reference shifts toward a contemporary reckoning.
The sculpture reflects a world unraveling from within, where empathy erodes, and long-held values lose weight. The vessel becomes a quiet but potent metaphor for emotional collapse, a form filled with hearts that beat no longer, holding the remnants of forgotten care.
Mohammadhadi suggests we are moving through a slow vanishing. What love or compassion was once present may never return, and what remains is delicate. Still, we continue, not fully aware that we participate in both the forgetting and the fading. The sculpture stands as a record of this condition, shaped by habit, loss, and emotional fatigue.
The fiberglass structure has an eerie lightness, while the green finish evokes both life and corrosion. The hearts, gathered tightly in silence, seem to wait for a feeling that no longer arrives. Through this work, Mohammadhadi challenges the viewer to feel more deeply, not just for others, but for what we may have let slip away within ourselves.
