About this Brass Chair

Hand-sculpted using the ancient lost-wax casting technique, the Ink Chair captures fluid movement. Each piece is cast from a steel-backed wax mold, then filled with molten brass and cooled. The surrounding wax melts away, revealing the raw form. Multiple rounds of prototype testing ensure balance and stability.

The final chair is scrubbed, patinated, and polished, offering finishes from soft matte black to warm gold. Its curved back and pointed legs evoke the flowing lines of Chinese ink paintings. Upholstery in velvet or satin adds comfort and contrast.

Founded in 2016, Masaya began as a creative branch of a long-established family bronze foundry. The brand brings artisanal mastery from traditional metalwork into contemporary interior design. Each piece reflects a deep respect for craftsmanship and material honesty.

Customization

Note

Brass is durable and suitable for both indoor and outdoor spaces. Sharp objects may scratch its surface. Over time, brass oxidizes and may lose its shine, especially in humid or coastal areas.

We offer two finishes: matte black and polished brass. Matte black requires no maintenance and keeps its color. Polished brass is unlacquered, allowing easy re-polishing when desired. Metal cream restores its natural shine.

Small pinholes and surface variations are part of the lost wax casting process, giving each piece a unique character.
