About the artist

Seena Nayeri, born in March 1983 in Mashhad, Iran, is a celebrated contemporary Iranian sculptor. His work blends traditional techniques with a modern approach, offering innovative and thought-provoking sculptural forms. 

He is known for his mastery of material and form, particularly in bronze and clay-based sculpture. His works reflect a deep exploration of contrast, balance, and surface in sculptural practice.

Nayeri began his artistic journey in 2007, training under the master sculptor Parviz Tanavoli. This mentorship helped him refine his technical skills and develop a distinct artistic voice. Tanavoli’s influence encouraged Nayeri to balance historical references with conceptual freedom. Through this foundation, Nayeri established a practice marked by contrast between texture and polish.

His sculptures are often centered around human experience and philosophical themes. He explores subjects such as emotion, identity, presence, and absence with poetic sensitivity. Nayeri often contrasts smooth and rough textures to create a sense of duality and tension. This balance gives his forms both visual complexity and tactile richness.

His piece "Dazed" is a small-scale clay sculpture that carries profound emotional weight. It captures a sense of psychological fragmentation through abstraction and compact form. In this and other works, Nayeri gives form to mental and emotional states. He achieves this through expressive surfaces and bold, sculptural presence.

Throughout his career, Nayeri has exhibited widely in Iran and internationally. His solo exhibition "Fools Carnival" at Seyhoun Art Gallery in Tehran launched his exhibition journey in 2007. In 2008, he presented "I'm Going to Make a Cake!" at Parvin Art Gallery in Rasht. These early shows showcased his emerging voice in contemporary sculpture.

He has also participated in many group and collaborative exhibitions in recent years. In 2018, he exhibited in "Nothing and Everything" at Art Center Tehran. In 2019, he was part of the "IRAN20 CHINA20" group show at Isfahan Museum of Contemporary Arts. These exhibitions reflect his active role in Iran’s evolving art landscape.

Nayeri’s art is deeply rooted in Iranian culture, history, and craft traditions. Yet it remains in dialogue with contemporary global sculpture and conceptual art practices. His ability to integrate cultural heritage with new ideas makes his work both timely and timeless. He crafts sculpture that invites both personal reflection and universal interpretation.
