about this mixed media artwork
Kuchar refers to a journey of textile traditions passed through generations of nomadic craftsmanship. The collection begins with antique Baluch embroidery and continues through intricate Turkmen stitchwork.
Each piece is hand-repaired by the artist, leaving visible aged sections to preserve their historical character. Some works are adorned with mirror pieces, while others display geometric embroidery rooted in tribal heritage.
All are completed with custom framing to enhance their presentation and protect their textile integrity. The works date from 50 to 90 years ago and hold deep cultural and aesthetic value. Baluch embroidery, or Suchan Duzi, is traditionally worked in fine silk or cotton with symbolic, dense patterns.
Its dark base fabric contrasts the detailed needlework, often dyed with natural pigments. Turkmen embroidery is known for vivid silk thread and tight chain stitches. It features motifs like rams’ horns, birds, and floral forms representing strength, fertility, or nature.
These symbols reflect ancient cosmology and the practical needs of nomadic life. Mirrorwork was added to protect against evil and reflect spiritual energy. The artist brings these traditions into the present by presenting the textiles as fine art. The framing elevates their heritage, giving each textile a new life without altering its origin.
Kuchar celebrates continuity, loss, and resilience through every stitched line and preserved imperfection. These works add warmth, texture, and meaning to any space while honoring nomadic artisanship.
