about this bronze sculpture
Sadegh Adham’s Bull Series is a remarkable collection of bronze sculptures exploring the profound symbolism of the bull across mythologies. The bull is often linked with strength, power, fertility, and masculinity in many ancient cultures. In Persian culture, the bull represents cosmic forces and agricultural life, while in Greek mythology, it connects to the Minotaur legend and sacrifices to the gods. Adham taps into these associations, transforming the bull into a timeless symbol of grace and might.
The medium of bronze is significant in these works, reflecting traditional sculpture methods while allowing dynamic, intricate forms. Bronze, known for its durability and capacity to hold detail, captures muscle, motion, and expression, giving the bull a lifelike presence. The metal emphasizes the strength and endurance inherent in the animal. It also adds a rich, earthy tone to the sculptures, evoking both ancient and modern sensibilities.
Adham’s Bull Series fuses mythology and materiality, with each statue conveying the mythic presence of the bull. His sculptures not only capture the muscular power of the creature but also its symbolic and spiritual weight. The polished surface of the bronze highlights the bull’s fluid form while grounding it in materiality. The sculptures become a powerful symbol of both the natural world and mythological realms.
