About this acrylic on canvas painting
This Solmaz Tohidloo’s series of artworks, created during the COVID-19 pandemic, includes works like How Short Is Love, How Long Is Forgetfulness. The paintings explore modern femininity amidst isolation. In these works, Tohidloo depicts women engaging in everyday activities, dining, walking the dog, and strolling.
The scenes exude quiet introspection and resilience. Women in serene domestic settings are often shown holding birds, symbolizing freedom and hope. The works invite viewers to engage deeply with these quiet moments. The absence of overt narratives encourages viewers to explore the subjects’ expressions and the surrounding atmosphere, fostering reflection.
Tohidloo uses mixed media fabric, paper, and metal adding texture and depth to her canvases. This enhances the artwork’s tactile experience. Her color palette ranges from warm, passionate tones to cool, contemplative hues. Each color evokes specific emotions and moods.
Tohidloo’s approach creates a visual language that celebrates cultural diversity and the enduring strength of women. This series marks a shift from her earlier works, which focused on Iranian identity and ancient art. These paintings reflect a contemporary sensibility.
They emphasize solitude, reflection, and strength found in the everyday moments of life. This approach celebrates the beauty of the ordinary. By focusing on intimate daily experiences, Tohidloo invites viewers to connect with the present moment and find meaning in it.
